Prayers and thoughts for lennon/Tony

I haven't been to the WAYLT thread for awhile (it was taking more time than I had trying to keep with it), but I became acquainted lennon/T there and from another thread.  I'm out of the loop and don't know the particulars of what is going on, but he and his daughter/family will certainly be in my thoughts and in my prayers, as they have been on previous occasions.  (Be well, my friend.)

Prayers and thoughts for lennon/Tony

Thank you for letting me know, Rockton. I'm a physical therapist and I used to work in a large hospital; I worked with several people with that same diagnosis--but everyone definitely is different, diagnosis notwithstanding. I will certainly be hoping and praying for the best outcome.

Prayers and thoughts for lennon/Tony

Lennon/Tony, although I do not know him personally, I have come to know him through his postings on several threads and found him to be very genuine and real. I have enjoyed the times I have talked and shared information with him. My heart felt love and prayers go out to him and his family in his time of need. Fight the good fight Tony, get well and do what it taked to come back strong to be there for your family.

Prayers and thoughts for lennon/Tony

WTF!!!!    $*()#%&#)%()_#*_$%*$*()!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the first I have heard of this... I immediately went back through and read the other threads about him.    It sucks when horrible things happen to great people.    We chatted here and there, though not as much as I would have liked.   Seems like an outstanding human being.

My father suffered a stroke several years ago.   Not a fun ordeal.    Fortunately, he has done well all things considered.

Using this as a vehicle in an attempt to turn this terrible news into something even remotely positive, please allow me to use this space to post a little bit of quick information about strokes. The following info may well save your life or the life of a loved one someday:

Strokes are essentially "brain attacks."

Strokes are the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States and second leading cause of death worldwide.

75% of all strokes occur in people over the age of 65 and that risk doubles every decade after the age of 55.

If you have any of the following symptoms, have someone drive you to the doctor immediately or call 911 immediately:

  • Sudden numbness, weakness, or paralysis of your face, arm or leg — usually on one side of your body
  • Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding speech
  • Sudden blurred, double or decreased vision (in one or both eyes)
  • Sudden dizziness, trouble walking, loss of balance or loss of coordination
  • A sudden, severe "bolt out of the blue" headache or an unusual headache, which may be accompanied by a stiff neck, facial pain, pain between your eyes, vomiting or altered consciousness
  • Confusion, or problems with memory, spatial orientation or perception

IMPORTANT:   EVERY SECOND COUNTS!!!!  DO NOT WAIT and hope the symptoms subside!!!!!    Each second means brain loss due to cells being deprived of oxygen.  Brain cells begin to die within minutes!!!

If you observe someone that you might think is having a stroke, this is what to look for:

  • F = Face - Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
  • A = ARM - Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
  • S = Speech - Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Does the speech sound slurred or strange?
  • T = Time - If you observe any of these signs, it’s time to call 9-1-1!!!

Time is critical because an important drug called tPA that can be administered (in the most common type of strokes), but only within the first hour (some places now up to 3 hours) after the stroke begins.    The quicker you get this, the WAY better off your chances are of not losing brain function.   Waiting to hope the symptoms go away is the WRONG answer!!!

Moreover, if you have ANY of those symptoms and even if they subside rather quickly, you might have had a TIA (or Transient Ischemic Attack) and these are essentially "mini-strokes" that can be pre-cursors to future larger strokes!   Go and get checked out!!!   It is best to be at the doctor WHILE you are having the TIA so they can properly diagnose you and take vitals.

Here is a video on it if anyone wants to learn more:

http://stroke.ninds.nih.gov/materials/knowstrokevideo.htm

Here is information about strokes including risk factors, screening, treatment, prevention, etc from the Mayo Clinic:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/stroke/DS00150/DSECTION=1

Finally, here is a page with a bunch of FREE stroke related items (cards for your wallet, laminated items to hang on your fridge, etc):

https://ice.iqsolutions.com/ninds/strokepubs.asp

In an effort to do something positive for lennon, take some time, look over the signs and email the information out to loved ones.    Order some of the free materials and give them to people that you know (parents, siblings, neighbors, co-workers, friends, etc... especially those of 50 years age).

Thanks RocktonRat for posting this.    Can I please ask that people post updates on this blog as to lennon's condition as news becomes available (the other threads are difficult to navigate through due to the high volume of posts).

BEST WISHES LENNON!!!   STAY STRONG... FIGHT HARD BROTHER!!!

Peace....
